We understand that there has been an enormous increase in the overall percentage of female drivers. As a result, women represent more than 65% of customers in auto repair shops because they are taking over a lot of the responsibilities dealing with the maintenance and repair of their vehicles (Automotive Service Excellence, ASE).
However, a recent Car Care Council survey recognized that despite their increasing influences, nine out of ten women still feel that they are treated negatively by repair shop operators and technicians simply because they are women. According to this survey, women also want to have their repairs explained to them in order to be more informed customers and receive better-quality repairs.
Rudeness and a lack of quality information can deter anyone, especially women, from services such as auto repair. A Bozell Worldwide and U.S. News & World Report study showed that 60% of women have hung up the phone, left a shop, or stopped buying products based on customer service alone. This same survey found that 78% of both men and women agreed that rudeness among sales associates has become more common in the last ten years.
However, a simple “can-do” attitude and service with a smile can change most of these negative perceptions and make customers feel welcome (About Women and Marketing magazine). Women, especially, appreciate a sales person who is readily available to help them and answer their questions.
It is for all of these reasons that here at Randy’s Automotive, my employees and I have agreed to help everyone who walks through our doors. You should know exactly what we know, when it comes to what your vehicle needs. If you don’t understand specifically what we are doing or why, we will be happy to explain it to you. I even invite you to come into my shop, watch, and learn what the technicians are doing to your vehicle. This is a service industry and we know that this business cannot possibly exist without you, the customers. It is our job to serve you and that is exactly what we intend to do.
I have been in this business for over 35 years and I love what I do. You will never walk into Randy’s Automotive and find an employee unhappy or unwilling to assist you. Most importantly, if you don’t need it, we won’t sell it.
Although most of these services are geared toward women, we will offer equal treatment to men as well. Sometimes, they need help too!
